Aloha, I’m Celeste Akeo…
So you’ve made it here to Maui and have your schedule set…But with all there is to do here, sometimes the seasonal events may sneak past your travel plans. And that’s where we come in.
Let’s take a trip around the calendar and find out about the special events that take place each year. Some are educational, some are interactive, and ALL are worth taking a look at.
As we start with the winter season, I invite you to join me as we take a look at “What’s happening” on Maui....
Wintertime may mean snowflakes & ski lifts in some parts of the world but in Maui it means whales, waves, & world-class golf!
The humpback whales make their migration from cold waters where they will give birth and nurse their young for about 6 months here in Hawaii. By the time January rolls around, whale sightings become commonplace. Be sure to check out some of the island wide events that celebrate the humpback whale. Festivities include educational, informative, and fun activities for the whole family!
When you’re not looking at humpback whales, head north to check out some big waves. The winter swell brings larges sets to water spots like Ho’okipa on the north shore. Grab a seat on the beach and watch the pro’s at play….
Speaking of pros, the elite of the golf world all flock to Kapalua each January for the SBS Championship. The plantation course plays host to the first PGA event of the year and draws the world’s best to compete for a multi-million dollar purse.
And in early February make your way to front street for the celebration of the Chinese New Year. Martial arts demonstrations, fireworks, live music, and of course the Chinese Dragon will help make this a night of culture and fun! Great for families, food and festivities carry on thru the night….
In March, runners head upcountry for the “Run to the Sun.” A challenging trek from Kahului up to Haleakala on this 37 mile, 10,000 foot elevation-changing run…
Keep in mind, these are only a few of the many events happening on Maui. You can find on-going events such as complimentary hula dance performances and concerts, weekly craft fairs and local art exhibits. Stayed tuned for more Maui events coming up later in our program
