Aloha, my name is Kalani Kai Gonzalez. I`m the cliff diver here at the beautiful Sheraton Maui. The name of this Black Rock area is Pu`u Keka`a. This is a sacred place, this is where the spitrits are leaping into the afterlife.

King Kahikili - he was a fierce warrior, but a kind politician at the same time. Part of his regimental training was to prove your manhood by jumping off a cliff.

When this hotel was built and opened back in the early 60`s, they decided to reenact the leaping of the spirits into the afterlife.

When I get up to the top, I`m paying honors to the four corners of the compass - North, West, South, East.

After I throw my lei, or when I throw my lei into the water, I`m looking at my impact zone, that there are no snorkelers in there...no turtles or spotted eagle rays floating around - and then I jump!
